COULEE REGION SCRIBES Present the 1999 Golden Scroll Writers Contest

Contest Entry Info

ELIGIBILITY  All writers living within 60 miles of the La Crosse area are invited to submit their work that complies with the criteria noted below.

Annual Contest DATES Opens January 1 and closes March 15

CATEGORIES MAXIMUM LENGTH ENTRY FEE

Adult Poetry

75 lines $4 per entry
Poetry Written for Children 75 lines $4 per entry
Adult Fiction 2000 words $4 per entry
Adult Nonfiction Prose 2000 words $4 per entry
Prose for Children 1500 words $4 per entry
Play/Book Excerpt (Fiction/Nonfiction)        3000 words $5.50 per entry
     
Two Children's Age Groups Under 12 years; and 12 to 18 years  
Prose by Children 2000 words $1 per entry
Poetry by Children 20 lines $1 per entry

SUBMISSIONS:  All entries must be original and previously unpublished. Previous winning submissions are ineligible. All entries must be typed, double spaced, with standard margins, on one side of a 8 x 11 standard sheet of typing paper.  A self-addressed envelope with return postage must accompany each entry if the person submitting material wants their material returned to them. CRS is not responsible for return of entries that do not have required postage.

Name and address should be written on ENTRY FORM ONLY. NOT ON THE MANUSCRIPT. See www.inkwells.net/entry.htm for the entry form.

A separate entry form and reading fee must accomapny entries in separate categories. For the Prose and Poetry for Children entries, please indicate the approximate age group for whom the work is inteded. Include a synopsis with Play/Book Excerpt. This synopsis  will be included towards the word limit defined above. Limit the synopsis to no more than 2 double-spaced pages.

AWARDS Best Poetry and Best Prose is awarded to a single overall winner. Each will be awarded $25 and have their names inscribed on the Golden Scroll Plaque. First Place winners in each category will receive an inscribed Golden Scroll Medal and $10.  Second place winners will receive $5. Third place winners will receive a ribbon. Honorable Mention will receive a ribbon. In the Prose and Poetry by Children categories, winners will receive ribbon only.

Don't forget to include your entry fee and, if you want your submission returned, an SASE, with your mailed entry.

Awards Banquet will be held in May.
